The goal isn’t more money. The goal is living life on your own terms. Having the freedom, independence and choice to choose how you live your life.
The way to do this is to step into your power and take control of your financial future. Just as you’re responsible for looking after your health and wellbeing you also need to be responsible for your financial wellbeing.
Historically, women haven’t been groomed, expected or encouraged to be successful powerful adults. They’ve had to learn that it’s alright to achieve money and success on their own terms – to achieve it themselves by their hard work or brilliance of their ideas.
By knowing what your financial goals are, understanding where you stand right now including any fears or limiting beliefs that are holding you back and what your financial game plan is, you can start living life on your own terms.
Because, here’s the thing.
If you want to own a home, start your own business (and make it a huge success!), travel, start a family, build passive income whilst you sleep (for example by earning interest off your savings, rent from investment properties and dividends from shares) or buy that designer handbag you’ve been eyeing off, you need to get it together and master your own finances.
Trust me, it won’t be an easy road if you’re flying by the seat of your pants or you choose to take a head-in-the-sand approach. Your financial wellbeing MUST be as high a priority to you as your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. You have the power within you to take control of your future.
It’s time for you to become the woman you’re meant to be, the ultimate authority in your life, that allows you to accumulate wealth and use it to increase your choices, improve your circumstances, follow your calling, help those you love and turn this world into a better place.
Your time is NOW.
Here are 5 financial habits to living life on your own terms:
1. Step Into Your Power
A powerful woman is someone who knows who she is, knows what she wants and expresses that in the world unapologetically. She knows that if she wants to live life on her own terms, then it is up to her take take control of own financial wellbeing and future and make it happen.
Money gives you choices. Choices that you can make which reflect who you are and not what someone else wants. Taking control of your money and creating financial security allows you to evolve into the complete person you were intended to be.
Yes, you can continually seek to be better without money but when you find yourself having to rely on others to support you, you become restricted and can find yourself having to live up to other people’s ideals.
Money is not an end, but serves as a means to an end, a tool for creating a meaningful life and living a life on your own terms.
2. Take Control Of Your Money
You wouldn’t let someone control your career or health. Just like that, you should never let someone else control your finances. Don’t wait around for someone to look after it for you – only you can take responsibility for YOU and your life.
Being on top of your money is necessary for being in control of your life and your direction. For knowing that you have enough saved for tomorrow without having to sacrifice the things that bring you happiness today.
Now you don’t need to be a financial expert to take control of your finances. You can always ask others for advice. It just means that you have a good idea of what’s going on with your money and that you be your own decision maker.
A wealthy partner or winning the tattslotto is NOT a financial plan! Only you can be in charge of your destiny – and if you’re in a relationship step up and make sure you confidently contribute equally to the financial decisions, rather than just giving away your power and have your partner make them all on your behalf.
Empower yourself with financial knowledge and set goals that will deliver you to financial wellbeing.
3. Create Your Financial Game Plan
What kind of life do you want to live? Knowing your dreams is the first step towards setting real, definable goals that will make your life completely fulfilling. However, in order to know what kind of life you want to live you need to know your values and what is really important to you in the way you live and work.
Even if you don’t have the money yet, by figuring out how much money you’ll need to reach your life’s goals will make them more real. You’ll be able to map out the steps – financial and otherwise that you need to take to reach each goal and make it happen.
Here are four questions you need to ask yourself:
- What is important to you – write down your 5 core values
- What is your definition of success? – write down your version and not society’s version
- What do you want most – write down 5 goals you think you’ll need to reach to serve each value
- How much will you need – write down how much money it will take to reach each of those goals
Knowing what is important to you and why is going to make sure that you create your Financial Game Plan on your terms.
4. Reset Your Money Mindset
It’s easy to spend money mindlessly everyday that you could be spending on the things in life that really matter to you. However, you can completely change your future by resetting your money mindset and being more purposeful with your money (creating your Financial Game Plan will help).
Every time you make a purchase you’re making a statement about what you value in life. Next time you make a purchase ask yourself if it’s something that you value or are you just spending money for the sake of it?
You can also reset your money mindset by changing your story. As Rumi said “This world is like a mountain. Your echo depends on you. If you scream good things, the world will give it back. If you scream bad things, the world will give it back.” He is referring to the Universal Law of Creation.
Your inner world (thoughts, beliefs and feelings) creates your outer reality. So instead of saying, Making money is so hard / I never have enough / Wanting money is bad or greedy – try changing your story to I have everything I need / It is safe for me to have abundance / I give to the world and I receive and see how that feels.
5. Invest in Yourself, Always
Investing in yourself and personal development is the most profitable investment you can ever make. By upskilling or learning something completely new, you can make a huge impact to your current and future earning power.
Below are some ways to invest in yourself:
- Read books
- Complete a course
- Attend a conference, workshop, networking event
- Start a business
- Find a mentor
Once you take control of your money and financial wellbeing, you’ll never worry about money again. You’ll be in charge. You will call the shots. You will be free. And most importantly YOU will have created your own destiny and all on your own terms!

A fantastic read, thank you Natalie. I have been working hard on ensuring my finances are under control since finishing school and I’m proud to have started my own investment portfolio but lately I’ve been feeling like money is controlling me with bills and debt spiralling out of my control – I need to reset and refresh my plan! Thank you for the reminder. Megan x
